Theatre Department

The Theater Arts program at Innovation Montessori Ocoee offers a unique and unparalleled integrative arts experience for students at the Elementary, Middle School, and High School levels.

Students in Elementary will attend drama class as part of our enrichment program. Classes meet once a week and will cover a variety of topics.

Students in Middle School and IMHS may select Musical Theatre as an elective. Classes meet 4 times per week.

Productions

Innovation Montessori also offers a chance to stretch the wings of the performer with two full-scale productions per year.  Casting for our productions are by audition only.  Students may also opt for technical jobs including, lights, sound, props, costumes, and stage managing.  Past favorites have included "Aladdin", "Beauty and the Beast", "Alice in Wonderland", and "We're on our Way".

Spring 2020 Production

Our Spring 2020 production will bring everyone's favorite ogre to life in Shrek the Musical presented at the Garden Theatre March 27th and 28th.

Synopsis:

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek.  One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Synopsis:

Disney’s Aladdin JR. is based on the 1992 Academy-Award®-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within.

The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character.

Innovation Montessori Ocoee presented their 2018 production of The Enchanted Bookshop on December 14th and 15th at Quest Church in Gotha, Florida.

Synopsis:

During the day, A Likely Story may look like any other used bookstore.  But at night, it’s a place where magic happens.  That’s when the characters inside the books come alive.  Six of those characters — Dorothy Gale, Robin Hood, Pollyanna, Sherlock Holmes, Heidi, and Tom Sawyer — long to help Margie, the scatterbrained owner, save her struggling store.  But they’re not allowed to leave the building or be seen by human eyes.  So when a pair of smugglers comes looking for a stolen necklace hidden inside one of the books, the characters are torn.  Should they warn Margie and risk disappearing forever?  Or can they find a way to defeat the crooks without being seen?  Featuring additional appearances by such beloved literary characters as the Queen of Hearts, Long John Silver, and Doctor Dolittle, this charming comedy celebrates the joy of reading in a fresh, fun-filled way.

Summer 2018 Alice in Wonderland JR

Camp Lakewood at Innovation Montessori Ocoee presented their Summer Camp production of Alice in Wonderland, JR. Twenty performers learned a full show in less than 2 weeks and performed in front of an enthusiastic audience to rave reviews!
